Harvesting Community focuses on the thriving organic farming community on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Once immersed in the organic farming community on BC's southern coastal islands, it becomes clear that the farmers and the communities in which they operate are interlinked and foster one another. The valuable contributions organic farming makes to community development are seen to be encouraging solutions to social, economic and environmental barriers in society. Given the food security challenges identified in Harvesting Community, it is evident that the local food movements supporting organic farming in urban and rural areas have been created because of concerns people have about the globalization of food systems, economic pressures on farmers, and other pressing environmental concerns. Harvesting Community identifies how some of the food security challenges facing the residents BC's southern most coastal islands are being overcome, and gleans some interesting solutions from the organic farmers in this region.
